About the Item
This exceptional Louis XVI ensemble from around 1780 comprises a finely carved console with its wall mirror – both richly gilded and superbly crafted, combining classical refinement with decorative splendor.
The console stands on fluted legs with rosettes and is connected by a beautifully modeled urn – a neoclassical motif symbolizing memory and eternity. Garland-like swags of laurel and oak leaves drape across the apron, carved with great detail. The grey marble top with white veining adds elegance and depth to the piece.
The grand mirror is crowned with an elaborate carved trophy composed of musical instruments (a lute, trumpet, and torch) entwined with laurel branches – allegories of the arts, glory, and enlightenment. Hanging floral garlands on both sides accentuate the celebratory and ceremonial character.
The original mirror glass shows signs of age, contributing to its authentic historical appeal.
