Brass Coquina Stone Console Table, France, circa 1970s
A substantial and elegantly proportioned neoclassical console table attributed to Maison Jansen, France, circa 1970s. The table is surmounted by a rectangular slab of natural coquina limestone, richly textured with fossilized shell and coral inclusions, presenting a warm honed surface with organic quarry-cut edges.
The architectural base is executed in dark patinated iron with stylized X-form legs joined by a horizontal stretcher, accented throughout with finely machined gilt brass collars, bosses, and sabots. At the center, a distinctive twisted iron rod and paired brass ring motif provides both structural reinforcement and sculptural ornament, a signature detail associated with Maison Jansen’s refined neoclassical revival designs.
Combining classical symmetry with modern restraint, this console exemplifies the sophisticated decorative language for which Maison Jansen was renowned during the mid-20th century, supplying elite Parisian and international interiors. Ideal for use as a hall, sofa, or pier table.
