About the Item
A superb and finely crafted pair of very unusual large antique French Neoclassical style gilt bronze mounted and elegantly mounted marble top mahogany triple drawer console tables.
Each large console table is gracefully formed in the classic half-moon shape with gild bronze mounts surmounted by a beautifully veined white marble top with beveled edges, softly rounded corners, and a serpentine front—expertly cut to mirror the gentle curvature of the apron below. The rich mahogany base is embellished throughout with finely cast and gilded bronze mounts, applied with exceptional precision and restraint.
The frieze of each console houses a discreet central drawer framed in gilt bronze molding and fitted with circular ring pulls, further embellished with a secret pull out drawer in each corner. The apron is outlined in bronze banding that continues seamlessly along the sides, accented by reeded pilasters clad in gilt bronze appliques. Four elegantly tapering fluted legs support the structure, each terminating in gilt bronze sabots. The consoles are united by a concave lower shelf that echoes the upper profile, offering both compositional harmony and structural integrity.
Delicately executed classical motifs—fluting, recessed paneling, and architectural accents—underscore the refined neoclassical style. This elegant pair reflects the timeless allure of 18th century design as reimagined in the Belle Époque, where the marriage of warm mahogany, luminous ormolu, and cool marble was prized for its balance, sophistication, and enduring grace—hallmarks of the French decorative tradition at its height.

Pair Italian Early 20th Century Rococo-Style Gilt-Bronze Center Tables/Consoles
By Fonderia Chiurazzi
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A Large and Impressive Pair of Italian Early 20th Century Rococo-Style Gilt-Bronze Center Tables or Wall Consoles with Marble Tops, attributed to Luigi Ciampaglia, renowned for his leadership at the esteemed Fonderia (Foundry) Chiurazzi di Napoli (Naples). These tables boast intricately cast serpentine gilt bronze frames featuring an ornate apron adorned with bearded male masks flanked by swaged floral garlands, C-scrolls, and acanthus motifs. They stand on four elegantly curved cabriolet legs joined by an 'X' stretcher, all terminating in floral sabots, supporting luxurious veined green Verde Antico marble tops. Both tables are elegantly engraved with "Ciampaglia" on the apron, suggesting they were likely a special private commission by Luigi Ciampaglia, possibly crafted by either the Fonderia Ciampaglia or the Fonderia Chiurazzi. Circa: Naples, 1920-1940.
Note: Another example of this model is currently on display at The Miramar Mansion in Newport, R.I
Luigi Ciampaglia held the position of head artisan at the Fonderia (Foundry) Chiurazzi di Napoli. Established by Gennaro Chiurazzi (1840–1906), the Fonderia Chiurazzi originated from a modest foundry founded in Naples in 1870. It swiftly gained renown, expanding into a workshop within the Albergo dei Poveri, where a team of skilled craftsmen, known as formatori, diligently produced casts of numerous statues. Over time, the foundry secured the privilege of taking molds from prestigious collections, including those of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples, the Capitoline Museums, the Vatican, the Borghese Gallery in Rome, and the Palazzo Pitti and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. This resulted in the creation of over fifteen hundred plaster piece molds, embodying the century-long legacy of the company—a feat that remains unparalleled today. Chiurazzi bronzes...

18th century, pair of Italian neoclassical lacquered and giltwood consoles
This pair of consoles was made in the second half of the 18th century in the neoclassical era, in Naples (Italy)
The carved and lacquered wooden consoles are composed of two half-moon tops lacquered with fake jasper. The band below the floor is sculpted in the ways of Classic grooved friezes, lacquered with light color and gold. The four legs are also grooved lacquered and golden and end in quadrangular feet.
These consoles are very elegant and refined for the simplicity of their line and color. Consoles with two shelves are also quite rare. These allow greater flexibility in their use: in fact, in the lower shelf it is possible to expose, for example, vases with flowers, porcelain, books or other decorative objects in addition to what is placed above or offend the ability to lighten the top floor from too many objects.
For their small size and especially for the particular depth of the floors, very narrow, and for the distinctly decorative character, these consoles are easily inserted in any environment. They are in fact perfect in the entrances or in the corridors, in a living room or a study, exposed in pairs or individually. The light color also makes them pleasant next to antique and modern furniture.
