A stunning pair of carved black marble and coloured Medicea Siena marble topped console tables The uprights carved from solid blocks of pure black marble in the form of Lamassu. The Italian Medicea Siena marble tops with moulded edges rests on top. 20th century A lamassu statue is a mythological creature in ancient Mesopotamian art, specifically from Assyria, that acted as a guardian spirit, often depicted as a winged bull with a human head. These statues were commonly placed at the entrances of palaces and temples to ward off evil and chaos, and they symbolized the power and divine authority of the rulers.
