About the Item

A handsome and most impressive pair of Roman mid 18th century late Baroque Period Mecca and faux painted marble consoles. Each stunning freestanding console is raised on four scrolled legs with acanthus leaves at the base leading to sumptuously carved Rocaille reserves at the knee of each leg. The reserves showcase striking attention to detail with each intricately carved scrolled movement emphasized by the original patination. The legs are joined via the Rocaille movements to the pierced and arbalest shaped apron which is designed in the same manner as the legs while displaying elongated scrolled bands in a stunning satin and burnished finish. The pierced and scrolled apron is accented at the front by a large scale Mecca reserve of scrolled acanthus leaves, shells and volutes, while flanked by large scale foliate carvings. Above are the impressive and thick faux painted green marble tops which follow the contours of the consoles below. All original patina and Mecca finish throughout.
