About the Item

From a private collection, we could offer this exceptionally rare low console by Dom Hans van der Laan and executed by the Jan de Jong atelier in the Netherlands around 1962. With its calm, architectural silhouette and strict, almost monastic proportions, it reads less like a piece of furniture and more like a small building for the room—quiet, grounded, and intensely graphic. Finished in a deep green lacquer, the surface has developed a beautiful patina over time: soft wear, tonal shifts and subtle marks that bring warmth to its severe geometry. The construction is equally compelling. The console is assembled with copper nails, which create a discreet decorative cadence while underscoring the object’s honest, utilitarian character. Up close, the rhythm of the planks and fasteners gives it a crafted, purposeful feel—minimal, but never cold. The piece was discovered in the Budel area, close to the former town hall associated with Van der Laan’s ideas and circle, which only strengthens its aura and provenance. Importantly, it is offered exactly as found, with no over-restoration—its authenticity and presence intact. A rare opportunity for collectors of Dutch modernism and Bossche School enthusiasts. Suitable as a low sideboard, entry console, or sculptural plinth for books and objects. * We can pack and ship world-wide ! Feel free to ask us a quote for shipping.
