About the Item

A rare and exceptional console table designed by Paul László in the 1950s. Crafted from richly grained walnut, the sculptural base showcases László’s signature blend of organic forms and precise craftsmanship. The undulating wooden frame features curvaceous legs and sinuous crossbars. Topped with its original, organically shaped glass, the design mirrors the contours of the base, creating a seamless visual flow. Published and numbered, this piece bears its serial number stamped directly on the wooden frame — a mark of authenticity that underscores its significance as a collectible work by one of the era’s most influential designers. Paul László (1900–1993) was a Hungarian-born architect and interior designer known for blending modernism with luxury. After studying at the Vienna Academy of Arts, he built a successful career in Europe before immigrating to Beverly Hills in the late 1930s, where he became a favored designer for Hollywood elites. László’s work combined clean lines, sculptural forms, and rich materials, merging architecture with furniture design to create cohesive interiors. He collaborated with Pace Collection and designed for Saks Fifth Avenue, with clients including Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, and Barbara Stanwyck, earning a reputation for his bold yet inviting aesthetic. Condition: Excellent vintage condition, with very minor surface scuffs primarily around the feet and one area with watermarks. The glass top is original with light wear. A serial number is present on the horizontal bar, as shown in the photos.

Sculptural Walnut and Glass Console Table by Thomas Throop Black Creek Designs
By Black Creek Designs LLC
Located in New Canaan, CT
The Laguna console shown here in walnut and glass can be made in custom sizes and various woods and finishes. The same design details apply to all possible variations. The Laguna series tables are some of my favorite and most challenging to build. Each base is unique as the process and resulting form is ultimately sculptural. The 1/2" thick tempered glass top is supported by a base made of walnut consisting of tapering arcs of varying size which intersect to form a dynamic structure. The series works well with almost any shaped top be it glass, stone or solid wood. The Laguna series of tables makes the ultimate sculptural statement in any setting. Each table base is unique, comprising of a number of tapered arcs joined to create a structure with endless visual possibilities. All the elements are shaped, joined and finished by hand so as to create a united design. Each Laguna table is designed and made at the Black Creek...
