About the Item

Unusual Warren McArthur console or perhaps a work table from a department store or beauty salon cosmetic cubicle. The sky blue Cafolite top was produced for the Warren McArthur Corporation in Muskegon, Michigan and was similar to Formica. The frame is very similar to the very popular Warren McArthur Corporation Sterno serving cart that was common in hotels, bars and restaurants across America but with slightly different radius bends and a central joinery and added cross tubing on the vertical supports that are not found on the serving carts. The outstanding aspect of the table is the Cafolite top. This table was painted black for at least 30 or 40 years maybe dating back to the 1950s which served to protect the top both from wear and tear and UV fading which is why it looks practically new. The tone of the blue is a favorite of Warren McArthur almost a trademark color. I have seen this color used in various upholsteries from outdoor webbing as on the Southampton lounge chair that is in the Vitra Collection in Switzerland, various side or armchairs that have been upholstered in leatherette or top of the line leather from L. C. Chase. And most noticeably in the supplemental mailer showing various colors of leather or leatherette that could be ordered from the factory that was sent with the company's catalogues to trade professionals or individuals from all parts of the country. This console is the first table top of this color that I have owned which I think makes it unusual. The table is in very good condition with minor wear.
