This piece bears the original metal maker’s tag reading “Karpen Guaranteed Fiber Rush Furniture – Chicago, New York,” confirming authenticity and early production.
Constructed with a solid hardwood internal frame and tightly hand-woven fiber rush and wicker, this piece is notably heavy and substantial for its size—hallmarks of Karpen’s commercial-grade craftsmanship. Designed to withstand daily use in hotels, clubs, and refined residences, it exemplifies the superior quality of turn-of-the-century American wicker furniture.
The form features tapered legs with stretchers and a braided rim detail, all consistent with early 20th-century production. Though painted long ago, the structure remains strong and intact, presenting beautifully with honest wear that speaks to its age and history.
