About the Item
A charming continental Kingswood Marquetry demi-line Commode. Inlaid marquetry patterns with boxwood, tulipwood in a neoclassical floral design. Diamond shaped floral patterns on the front of the top drawers. Original marble top with a color pattern that transfers from orange at the back to purple at the front. Fluted and tapered legs. Gilt bronze wreath pulls, ormolu mounted hardware and keyholes, and ions law feet. Unfinished oak on the back. Made circa late 18th to mid 19th Century in France.
Markings on the piece include “Surila #16” handwritten on the bottom of the marble top. No other obvious markings visible on the piece.
In good condition. Gentle wear consistent with age and use, in particular on the finish of the front of the bottom left hand drawer.
This commode would make a great feature in a hall, entry, living room, bedroom, or powder room in any home. Perfect for adding a neoclassical flavor to your living space.
