18th Century English Queen Anne Period Walnut Writing Desk

About the Item

A wonderful, fine quality period Queen Anne, Early Georgian writing desk (or large dressing table) with outstanding patina and provenance. Exquisitely crafted in England in the first half of the eighteenth century, the entire piece having well figured walnut with beautiful grain pattern and warm color, that is the most valued attribute of these highly sought after walnut forms. The top features book-matched burled walnut with cross-banding and block molding edge with desirable overhang. The front having a shaped apron that acts as a kneehole, under a central drawer that's flanked on each side by two additional drawers. All five drawers having dovetail joinery, rectangular form with figured walnut fronts, delicate herringbone cross-banded border and have operable locks that open thanks to the original period style brass handles with escutcheons and key. Raising on elegant hand carved Queen Anne cabriole legs with shell carving embellished knees, ending on pad feet. Loaded with character and charm, it is a standout, and its color draws one’s attention, as the amber glow of the walnut is magnificent. Finished on all sides, it can be showcased in the middle of the room. Provenance; Private Collection of Mrs. Toni Chapman Brinker (married T. Boone Pickens, 2014 to his death in 2019) and the late Mr. Norman Brinker, Dallas. Dimensions: (approx) 31.5" H x 45.5" W x 23" D Great condition. Original, unrestored, antique condition. Structurally sound. Some minor splitting throughout trim to tabletop edge, with minor loss of veneer under top right drawer, scattered separation of veneer from rear body, with scattered scuffs to feet, with all wear indicative of age and use, and the lot otherwise presenting very well.
