About the Item

19th century regency brass inlaid writing desk circa 1925. Beautifully made regency period writing table, profusely inlaid with brass stringing and decoration. Rectangular flame mahogany writing surface with a cross banded border in between brass stringing.  Each of the 2 drawers below the top surface are strung with a cartouche shaped design, original handles and working locks and key.  Reverse is decorated with dummy drawers which makes this desk free-standing.   Inlaid brass floral design to each corner and a symmetrical design to each side.  Raised on 2 lyre form supports with brass strings, further cross banding and brass inlay which continues onto the splayed legs, which are united by a turned stretcher.    Finishing with cast lion paw brass castors. Stunning table, which has been fully re-polished by hand in our workshop. Very minor age splits to veneer on top surface which have been restored.  No brass missing.  Minor restorations to woodwork, which have been done to a high standard.  Ready for everyday use. Knee height: 24.3"
