About the Item

Art Deco Desk in Satin Birchwood Attributed to Heal’s, London. A fine Art Deco desk attributed to Heal’s of London, dating from the 1920/30's and crafted in beautifully figured satin birchwood. The desk is fitted with a black leather writing surface, finished with finely tooled edging, offering both visual contrast and practical functionality. Stamped on the underside of the central drawer with the item number and likely the inspector's mark—a characteristic feature of earlier production pieces, predating the later, more widely used Ivorine labels by Heals. A small raised gallery runs along the back and sides, enhancing the architectural Art Deco form while remaining elegant and understated. The desk is solidly constructed in wood with quality veneers, displaying excellent craftsmanship throughout, including finely executed dovetail joints. The design is complemented by distinctive shaped ebonised wooden handles, which harmonise seamlessly with the warm tones of the birchwood and reinforce the cohesive Deco aesthetic. An ebonised plinth base provides a strong visual contrast and grounds the piece with confidence and presence. A stylish and functional Art Deco desk, ideal for a home office, study, or interior with period or modernist influences. This Heal’s-attributed piece combines quality materials, thoughtful detailing, and timeless design appeal.
