About the Item

This elegant Art Deco desk is attributed to Jules Leleu, one of the most influential figures of French decorative arts in the early twentieth century. Executed in richly figured rosewood, the desk is defined by its harmonious proportions, subtly curved drawer fronts, and refined ivory-tone accents that punctuate the composition with discreet luminosity. Tapered legs and a sculpted apron lend the piece a sense of architectural clarity, while the pull-out extensions on either side reflect the functional sophistication characteristic of Leleu’s work. Jules Leleu rose to international prominence during the interwar period, furnishing prestigious interiors for private residences, ocean liners, and diplomatic commissions. His mastery of precious woods and restrained ornamentation positioned Maison Leleu at the forefront of Art Deco refinement. This desk, with its balance of sculptural form and understated luxury, embodies the aesthetic ideals that defined French high design between 1910 and 1930, making it a rare and enduring example of the period.
