About the Item

Coen de Vries designed this distinctive desk for Dutch manufacturer Devo in 1957, representing the pinnacle of Dutch industrial design innovation. One of the Netherlands' pioneering industrial designers, de Vries created practical furniture pieces frequently featured in Goed Wonen magazine, the influential Dutch interior publication that shaped 1950s modern living. The desk showcases de Vries' signature approach to functional design with its striking X-frame trestle base constructed from dark-stained wood. The tabletop features formica complemented by a central drawer measuring 13.375" x 17.125" x 3" with its original joyful yellow painted front, flanked by an open storage compartment. The geometric construction demonstrates the era's commitment to clean lines and purposeful form, while the contrasting yellow drawer adds spirited Mid-Century optimism. The piece retains its original condition with visible wear consistent with age and use, preserving its authentic character from nearly seven decades of history.
