About the Item

This striking bespoke Dennis and Leen "Regency" black lacquered desk showcases a deep ebonized raisin crackle lacquer finish adorned with intricate gilt decoration throughout in the Chinoiserie taste. The top displays a handsome lattice or diamond trellis pattern border punctuated by stylized floral motifs at each corner. The apron features elaborate pierced fretwork with continuous scrolling foliate patterns and quatrefoil motifs in the Chinese Chippendale style. The fretwork is rendered in high relief encircling the entire table. The legs are expertly turned in a bamboo-inspired form with ringed segments, each decorated with delicate gilt botanical motifs including leaves and grape clusters. The glossy black lacquer with warm gilt highlights creates a dramatic visual impact. The desk features six large uniform drawers, with three on each side in a partners style. The desk has an intentionally light distressing on the finish to mimic age. The construction is sturdy and strong with excellent joinery and craftsmanship by Dennis and Leen artisans. All drawers are functional and slide smoothly. The fretwork apron is intact with no significant losses. Custom ordered in a larger 72 inch width from an estate in Beverly Hills, CA.
