About the Item
This rare 19th-century English architect’s table features a beautifully sculpted kidney-shaped top in richly figured mahogany that opens to reveal an adjustable drafting surface. Designed with both elegance and utility in mind, the piece retains its original mechanism, allowing the top to tilt for drawing or writing at an angle. The refined serpentine apron houses a drawer fitted with two round brass pulls and a central keyhole, while a pull-out support slides discreetly from the side.
Raised on square tapered legs joined by a shaped cross-stretcher and terminating in brass casters, the table combines Regency-era sophistication with the practical ingenuity of a working desk. Its compact footprint (33.75"W x 21"D x 32"H) and graceful silhouette make it suitable for placement in a study, library, or collector’s interior where historical craftsmanship is prized.
A true blend of function and form, this antique mahogany architect’s table would have originally served a designer or draftsman, but today offers rich decorative character alongside its mechanical charm. A distinctive addition to any period-focused or English country house-inspired interior.
