About the Item

Introducing a rare executive desk designed by the incomparable Florence Knoll for Knoll Associates. Featuring a newly upholstered Italian leather hide top this iconic desk has recently undergone an extensive restoration process. Built from a frame of chrome and black walnut replete with variegated woodgrains unique to the species this impressive case piece is simultaneously commanding and alluring. The newly upholstered top, redone in a rich Italian full-grain black leather hide, offers a modern take on the classic design. About Florence Knoll (Designer): Florence Knoll (1917–2019) was a pioneering American designer, architect, and the creative force behind Knoll’s furniture division. Trained at the Cranbrook Academy of Art under Eliel Saarinen and influenced by Mies van der Rohe, Knoll revolutionized modern interior design in the mid-20th century. Joining Knoll Associates in the 1940s, she introduced the “Knoll Planning Unit” and designed iconic pieces like the Model 57W sofa, blending functionality with minimalist elegance. Her work earned her numerous awards, including the National Medal of Arts, cementing her legacy as a trailblazer in the design world. About Knoll (Manufacturer): Knoll, founded in 1938 by Hans and Florence Knoll in New York, is an iconic American company that shaped Mid-Century Modern design. Based in the USA, Knoll collaborated with a talented team, including Florence Knoll, to produce groundbreaking furniture like the Model 57W sofa. Known for its commitment to craftsmanship, innovative materials, and modernist principles, Knoll gained international acclaim in the 1950s and 1960s. The company’s focus on functional yet artistic pieces, often featuring walnut and early synthetic upholstery like Naugahyde, has made it a favorite among collectors and interior designers, with its legacy enduring to this day. Ideal for collectors and designers alike searching for an authentic Florence Knoll desk that is unlike any other and ready for a lifetime more of use. With stunning woodgrains, a tasteful chrome frame and luxurious leather top this recently restored masterpiece is sure to make a BOLD impression in any space it inhabits. Make it yours and transform your office space today. ---Dimensions--- Width: 66 in / 167.64 cm Depth: 32 in / 81.28 cm Height: 29 in / 73.66 cm This iconic executive desk by Florence Knoll has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration process. The black walnut siding has been hand sanded and refinished with only minimal signs of wear remaining such as minor veneer burns, minor scratches and screw holes (left over from when the desk originally had a second set of drawers) the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided. What that said the wood is in overall very good condition and features a new coat of clearcoat ensuring the wood remains durable for decades to come. The chrome frame shows minor pitting and surface scratches (shown in the detail photos provided), mostly relegated to the bottom crossbar, whilst the chrome on the legs are in excellent shape. Both drawers open and close with ease. Unfortunately the key has been lost to time but a new lock and key can be cut and installed at cost if desired. The desk top has been covered in a genuine, thick-cut Italian leather hide and shows only the wear of a once living animal such as ranch brands and scars (one of which is shown prominently on the bottom right corner). This iconic desk is functional, structurally solid and ready for a lifetime more of use thanks to it's recent restoration process. Please view all photos and natural light video provided for details on this executive desk's current condition.
