About the Item

Giuseppe Pagano (1896-1945) Flamed walnut desk with bands and uprights, a drawer on the front and two large drawers on the sides with shaped wooden handles. One of the major figures of Italian rationalism, he participated, along with Marcello Piacentini, Luigi Vietti, and others, in the initial design of the EUR district in Rome. He designed and built the Faculty of Physics building in Rome, Bocconi University in Milan, and Palazzo Gualino in Turin. An intellectual, writer, and reactionary fighter, he sided with the anti-fascist troops, was captured several times, and escaped from Brescia Castle. However, due to a twist of fate, he ended up in Mathausen in 1945, where he died young a few days before the liberation and the arrival of the Russians.
