About the Item

A most elegant and extremely high quality French 18th century Louis XV period Kingwood, Tulipwood, and ormolu desk circa. 1750. The Bureau à Cylindre desk is raised by beautiful cabriole legs with fine fitted scrolled foliate ormolu sabots and stunning richly chased berried laurel and acanthus leaf corner mounts in a remarkable satin and burnished finish. A delicate ormolu fillet extends up each leg and along the sides, back, and scalloped shaped front with three drawers each decorated with lovely finely detailed foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheons set on a most decorative tulipwood background. The back and sides display beautiful quarter veneered Tulipwood panels showcasing the beautiful wood grain. The roll top displays an exquisite herringbone design with graceful intricately chased foliate ormolu pulls also displaying a superb satin and burnished finish with exceptional foliate movements leading up each side to a finely detailed ormolu mount of a beautiful maiden and handsome man in armor at each side. The roll top opens to reveal the original pull out writing surface with its original fitted gold tooled leather top and four drawers each displaying fine circular ormolu pulls. Above is an additional beautiful quarter veneered panel framed in an elegant pierced wrap around ormolu gallery with a unique and most decorative interlocking foliate design. All original gilt throughout. Measures: Depth with pull out: 26"
