About the Item

A stunning and unique French 19th century Louis XV st. ebony, tortoiseshell, brass, and leather Boulle st. desk. The desk is raised by four elegant cabriole legs with fine fitted foliate ormolu sabots, lovely brass inlaid filets, and striking richly chased foliate corner mounts in a superb satin and burnished finish. At the center is one drawer displaying a most impressive and wonderfully executed pierced brass plaque with beautiful floral and foliate designs each fitted with ebony inlaid wood and displaying scrolled foliate ormolu pulls and keyhole escutcheon. The back is decorated in the same manner as the sides centered by a finely detailed mask of a beautiful maiden. Above is the outstanding and most decorative top richly decorated with beautiful masterfully executed inlaid brass fillets in geometric patterns with lovely flowers and corner horseshoe shaped designs set on a stunning tortoiseshell and ebony background. At the center is the original burgundy colored fitted leather writing surface with a fine gold tooled border. All original gilt throughout.
