About the Item

An elegant and high quality French mid 19th century Louis XV st. Tulipwood, Kingwood and Ormolu Bureau Plat desk. This most handsome desk is raised by four cabriole legs decorated by top Ormolu mounts with designs of scrolls acanthus leaves. Below the mounts are Ormolu chutes with beaded designs which lead down to the pierced wrap around Ormolu sabots. The Kingwood inlaid apron has a wonderful arbalest shape with three quarter veneered Tulipwood drawers. The central drawer is fitted with a scrolled keyhole escutcheon while the outer drawers are fitted by similar keyhole escutcheons and scalloped Ormolu foliate handles. Above is the bombee shaped writing surface with a central brown fitted leather with gold tooling. The leather is surrounded by a Tulipwood border and a unique three sided mottled Ormolu gallery. The opposite side of the desk is fitted the same with Ormolu mounts to simulate the same finish without the function of drawers.
