About the Item

One of a kind French Louis XVI architect's table with a rectangular profile, made of mahogany and mahogany veneer, known as the "Table à la Tronchin" (circa 1790-1800). The work surface, covered in embossed leather and operated by a rack and pinion mechanism, rises and unfolds to form a removable and tiltable desk, adjustable via brass mechanical supports concealed in the front legs. This allows the user to work standing or sitting. The frieze opens to reveal a drawer with a work surface covered in embossed green leather and divided into compartments, possibly for storing papers. The side features divided compartments, one of which includes a metal inkwell. The sides of the table have removable leaves covered in embossed green leather, matching the rest of the main surface, originally used as candle holders. It rests on four ornate cylindrical legs that terminate in gilt bronze finials or sabots.
