About the Item

A French Gilt-Metal Bureauplat, 19th Century Provenance: Private Australian Collection Acquired in 1980s. Description: The shaped rectangular top inset with a tooled leather writing surface within a brass surround border, female masks and chute mounted at each corner issuing foliates. The three frieze draws each centred with gilt-metal foliate drop handles and escutcheons, a pair of opposing gilt metal female masks mounted and centring either side, the cabriole legs adorned by chutes of conforming scrollwork and foliate motifs, each giving way to an acanthus and paw foot.
