About the Item

Elegant French double-sided writing desk in the Louis XV–Transition style, France circa 1880. This refined model features five drawers on each façade – four small drawers and one central drawer on the working side, mirrored on the opposite face for perfect symmetry (the reverse drawers are decorative only). The walnut veneer is delicately framed with fine brass stringing, and the desk retains its original gilt-bronze mounts with rocaille motifs. The top is bordered by a molded walnut frame and still presents its beautiful aged leather surface, naturally patinated and preserved — not newly recovered. Graceful cabriole legs ending in ornate gilt-bronze sabots complete the composition. A sophisticated and decorative piece of Belle Époque craftsmanship, combining the refinement of 18th-century design with the precision of late 19th-century cabinetmaking.
