About the Item

Giancarlo George Ciancimino Trèfle Cloverleaf Desk for Mobilier International, France. Cold drawn and polished solid aluminum vertical supports in Ciancimino's proprietary unique four-leaf clover design that fits together like a puzzle. Horizontal framing elements in satin extruded aluminum profiles. Adjustable leveling feet. Original high gloss deep red lacquered wood inset top. If requested this top could be replaced with stone, glass, lucite, et al. Left and right bank lacquered case each with a single drawer below a pull out tablet. This sleeker more minimalist configuration is highly uncommon as every other desk version appears to have double drawers. Please reach out to us directly for a shipping quote as this table can be disassembled to varying degrees for ease of transport. Maestro Ciancimino, age 99, designed Blofeld's lair in James Bond's Diamonds Are Forever. Rya bullseye rug listed separately. At the end of the 1960s, Mobilier International established itself as one of the major players in the dissemination of contemporary design in France. The company, founded by Théo and Michel Schulmann , introduced the creations of Eames , Jacobsen and Poul Kjærholm to the French market , while also producing its own models. Among them, the collection designed by Giancarlo Ciancimino stands out as a remarkable example of technical rigor and structural elegance. Its secret: a discreet yet essential extruded aluminum profile in the shape of a four-leaf clover, which becomes the heart of the system. An intelligent constructive principle: This clover-shaped profile , a true signature of the collection, combines ease of assembly with formal coherence. Connected to pressed and naturally anodized aluminum crossbars, it supports the tabletops while allowing the furniture body to be suspended. This ingenious system ensures unprecedented modularity: the elements can be assembled, disassembled, and reconfigured without complex tools. Ciancimino thus developed a complete vocabulary—coffee tables, consoles, desks, storage units—where each piece interacts with the next. The collection embodies this idea, so dear to the 1960s: that of rational, functional, and adaptable furniture, designed for modern life. Giancarlo Ciancimino 's "Trèfle" collection bears witness to a moment in the history of French design. It reflects the ambition of an era when furniture became architecture, system and aesthetics all at once. Its constructive simplicity, modular logic, and functional beauty continue to inspire collectors, who see in these creations one of the purest expressions of late modernism. Source: Achille
