This antique writing desk was crafted in the Meiji Era (1868-1912). This is an ancient Japanese desk, traditionally used while sitting on the floor. As such, it is designed to be low. It is also suitable for modern use as a coffee table or a low flower stand. Made of zelkova wood (keyaki) and finished with traditional Japanese urushi lacquer, it embodies a timeless charm. The urushi finish has aged gracefully, with some areas showing wear that adds to its historical character and unique appeal. The desk features a practical design with drawers that can be pulled out from both sides, offering both functionality and aesthetic balance.
