About the Item

On offer is a beautifully crafted French Louis XV-style bureau plat or flat desk, with a single wide drawer seamlessly integrated into the front apron. Beyond serving as a flat-top writing table, it can be used from all sides, for example serving as a central piece in a room. Exhibiting classic French Rococo style, with its elegant cabriole or curved legs and an undulating, serpentine-shaped apron, the desk’s most prominent feature is the detailed floral marquetry achieved by inlaying pieces of different colored woods to form the intricate bouquet and scroll patterns against a dark wood background. Adding to the ultra-luxurious style, the desk is richly adorned with gilt-bronze, or ormolu, mounts. Applied to the knees of the legs, the apron, and the sabots (feet), these mounts serve both a decorative purpose and a protective function for the edges and corners of the furniture, much appreciated when you're living with something as splendid as this.
