About the Item

Mid 19th century pollard oak davenport desk circa 1850. We are pleased to offer this elegant example of a davenport made in pollard oak. Top surface with original brass gallery, leading down to the brown leather writing surface with gold tooling.  Writing section pulls forward to allow a generous knee height of 25 inches.  Hinged lid opens to reveal an open storage well and 4 drawers, 2 of which are dummy drawers, 1 handle pulls out to allow a secret pen tray to be pulled out from the side.  Working lock and key. Also featuring a pull out brushing slide each side.  A bank of 3 graduating drawers one side is complemented by dummy drawers to the other.  Standing on turned bun feet and concealed brass castors. Good rich colour and patina, minor surface marks to woodwork but a fine example and ready for everyday use. Knee height: 25" Depth pulled out: 33"
