About the Item

Cees Braakman (1917-1995) is one of the most influential furniture designers the Netherlands has ever known. Cees was born in 1917 above the UMS Pastoe factory in Utrecht, where his parents lived at the time. He did not get his passion for furniture from a stranger. His father, D.L. Braakman, also worked for Pastoe and was a manager and designer. When Cees was 17, he decided to work for Pastoe too. After the Second World War, he made a study trip to the US where he was inspired by the work of design duo Charles and Ray Eames and the Herman Miller Company. After this, Braakman started experimenting at Pastoe with techniques he saw at Herman Miller, such as bending plywood. He eventually took over from his father in 1945. From 1945 to 1978, Cees was head of the design department at Pastoe. This plywood EB02 desk ( offered here) the birch serie , has typical Herman Miller / George Nelson influences. It is in very good used condition with traces of normal wear tear.
