About the Item

Uno scrittoio di superba fattura proveniente dai rinomati laboratori parigini di Paul Sormani. Realizzato con legni esotici locali e d'importazione, presenta intricati intarsi geometrici e montature in bronzo dorato. L'interno, sia i cassetti che le ante, è completamente rivestito in acero occhiolinato. Questo mobile è composto da due parti: la scrivania vera e propria, con un ampio cassetto frontale e un piano apribile rivestito in velluto turchese; la parte superiore presenta due ante e due cassettini. Questa scrivania non è stata restaurata e viene venduta in purezza. Presenta lievi segni di usura e necessita di lucidatura. Paul Sormani (1817-1877), uno dei più importanti ebanisti del XIX secolo, nacque a Venezia. Dopo aver studiato ebanisteria, si trasferì a Parigi, dove aprì il suo primo negozio nel 1847, specializzandosi in mobili Luigi XV e Luigi XVI. L'imperatrice Eugenia, moglie dell'imperatore Napoleone III, devota ammiratrice dei mobili del XVIII secolo, commissionò a Paul Sormani pezzi spettacolari per completare i suoi mobili d'epoca. Sormani soddisfò gli elevati standard dell'imperatrice con l'eccellente qualità dei suoi mobili di ebanisteria e bronzi, nonché con l'uso di lacche e lavorazioni in legno rare. L'azienda di Paul Sormani produsse magnifici "mobili di lusso", il cui lavoro fu descritto nel catalogo dell'Esposizione Universale del 1867 come "l'intera sua produzione rivela una qualità di esecuzione di altissimo livello".
