About the Item

This sophisticated Mid-Century Modern executive desk, designed by Jean Gillon and manufactured by Italma in Brazil during the late 1960s, exemplifies luxurious craftsmanship. Crafted from solid wood and veneered in jacarandá (Brazilian rosewood), it showcases the material’s prized grain and natural beauty. Featuring clean, modernist lines and dual pedestals, the desk includes a left side with a pull-out shelf and three drawers, and a right side with one pull-out shelf and a single file drawer. In excellent condition, this minimalist masterpiece elevates any office or collector’s space, appealing to designers and enthusiasts alike. Jean Gillon, a visionary Brazilian designer, brought a distinctive flair to mid-century furniture with his innovative use of native woods like rosewood. His collaboration with Italma in the 1960s produced iconic pieces that merged functionality with sculptural elegance, cementing his legacy in modern design. Italma, founded in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1952, emerged as a leading mid-century furniture manufacturer, renowned for its high-quality craftsmanship and use of exotic woods. Specializing in modernist designs, the company collaborated with prominent designers like Jean Gillon to create pieces that defined Brazil’s mid-20th-century design movement. By the late 1960s, Italma had gained international acclaim for its innovative approach, blending traditional woodworking techniques with contemporary aesthetics, making its works highly sought after by collectors and designers today. ---Dimensions--- Width: 63.25 in / 160.66 cm Depth: 31.5 in / 80.01 cm Height: 30.25 in / 76.84 cm This extraordinary executive desk has recently undergone a full restoration process. The desk top has been completely hand-sanded and refinished though some signs of wear remain as the veneer was too thin to sand-out some gouges and chips entirely (all remaining wear can be seen in the detail photos and natural light video provided). The legs and frame are in stunning original condition and show only minor wear such as nicks and surface scratches (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos and natural light video provided). With that said this desk is a marvelous time piece with variegated woodgrains that are truly mesmerizing in natural light. All six drawers open and close with ease and show only minor wear on the corners (as seen in the detail photos provided) and the drawers are mildly un-aligned. The chrome handles show minor only tarnishing and light pitting. The keys for both functioning locks have been lost to time, however fresh skeleton keys can be fabricated at cost if desired. Please message us prior to checkout to discuss options and pricing. This artfully designed and crafted writer's desk is incredibly functional, structurally solid and ready for a lifetime more of use thanks to it's recent restoration process. Please view all photos and video for details on this desk's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
