About the Item

A very rare 19th Century well figured mahogany and kingwood leather top ladies writing desk of neat proportions, exceptional quality with rich patination and grain. This stunning piece is finely hand carved, quarter veneered and fitted with well cast ormolu mounts throughout. The moulded, crossbanded and inlaid top of rectangular form with curved canted corners is fitted with a gorgeous gilt embossed tooled leather writing skiver surface and features a foliate ormolu border trim. Raised above a frieze with one single long drawer flanked with two short drawers, all quarter veneered, beautifully inlaid and fitted with fabulous ormolu escutcheons and keys with foliate motif detail. Supported on elegantly tapering and ormolu mounted ring turned and fluted legs, terminating on fabulous foliate cast sabot foot. Mahogany Type: 'Santos Mahogany' Knee Hole Height: 24 in / 61 cm
