About the Item

This is a beautiful dining set comprising an antique George III flame mahogany twin pedestal dining table circa 1810 in date and ten bespoke Regency style tulip back dining chairs. The amazing table can sit ten people in comfort and will stretch to 12 when two people are seated at each end. It has been handcrafted from solid mahogany which has a beautiful grain and is in really excellent condition. It has one large leaf which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion and stored away when not required. The table is raised on a pair of masterfully hand-carved tapered squared column supports with carved palmettes and quadriform bases and raised on carved paw feet with recessed brass castors. The English made bespoke set of ten Regency style dining chairs comprises eight side chairs and two armchairs, all of which feature an attractive tulip back design and 'drop-in' seats that have been upholstered in the finest olive green Alcantara fabric. These chairs have been masterfully crafted in beautiful solid flame mahogany throughout and the finish and attention to detail on display are truly breathtaking. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
