About the Item

This is an elegant dining set comprising an antique Regency Period dining table with a set of ten Regency Period dining chairs, all dating from Circa 1820. The table is of rectangular form with rounded corners and reeded edge. It is raised on twin pedestals with turned columns on triple swept sabre leg bases which are fitted with brass lion's paw toes and castors. It has two leaves that can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion . The table top is of beautiful flame mahogany and there is no mistaking the fine craftsmanship of this handsome dining table which is certain to become a treasured addition to your furniture collection, and a talking point with guests at meal times. The matching set of ten Scottish Regency Period mahogany dining chairs comprises eight side chairs and two armchairs, each with a curved, dished and scrolled toprail with a central raised octagonal tablet flanked by incised stylised foliage, above a ring turned splat, on channelled square section downswept legs. The drop in seats seats are upholstered in a sumptuous fabric and they are raised on elegant sabre front legs. These chairs have been masterfully crafted in beautiful solid mahogany throughout and the finish and attention to detail on display are truly breathtaking. There is no mistaking the fine craftsmanship of this handsome dining set which is certain to become a treasured addition to your furniture collection, and a talking point with guests at meal times. Provenance: Bishton Hall, Country House sitting in 25 acres of beautiful gardens in the centre of rustic Staffordshire and home of the Northcote family. The item is not CITES pursuant. Condition: In excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned, polished and waxed and the chairs reupholstered in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Its east wing was added in the 19th century. Meanwhile, the magnificent Temple Garden was built in the 1840s. The Grade II* listed property's formal gardens include a temple and orangery. Flame Mahogany Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
