About the Item

Introducing the exquisite vintage expanding dining table from the renowned designer Paul McCobb for Calvin Furniture. This timeless set, part of the lauded Irwin Collection, showcases exceptional design and superior craftsmanship. Crafted in the 1950s in Grand Rapids, Michigan, this table features a spacious surface supported by solid mahogany legs and brass tone stretchers, adding a unique touch to its classic design. The table comes with two extension leaves, each measuring 12", allowing the table to extend to a maximum length of 78" when fully expanded. Perfect for accommodating guests, this dining table is a true statement of both style and functionality. The chairs, redone to match the table, feature the same brass supports and have been reupholstered in a vintage, kind-to-the-touch polyester blend fabric in burnt orange tones. All seats include newly added medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity. Part of a second wave of midcentury American designers that emerged after World War II, Paul McCobb was such a household name, the press crowned him “America’s Designer” during his lifetime. His works are characterized by striking geometry, purity of form and a rock ‘n’ roll undercurrent that are all on full display with this re-imagined dining table. Featuring a pickled wood treatment creating a weathered look that highlights the mahogany's natural grain this incredibly rare icon of the 1950's can blend seamlessly against a multitude of design backdrops from Contemporary to Boho Chic to Mid-Century Modern and everything in between. Make it yours today before it's gone forever and transform your dining space to new aesthetic heights. ---Dimensions--- Extended Width: 78 in / 198.12 cm Width: 54 in / 137.16 cm Depth: 36 in / 91.44 cm Height: 29 in / 73.66 cm Professionally pickled by the previous owners this incredible table underwent a partial restoration in the recent past with only minor signs of vintage wear present such as scratches, a veneer repair and other minor veneer chips (less than 2 mm in size) all of which can be seen in the detail photos and natural light video provided. With that said the wood is in overall very good condition and pickled wood finish gives this table an excellent weathered appearance. The brass table crossmembers and chair supports show only minor tarnishing. The table easily expands and contracts via a clever system of metal cogs and the two extension leaves are easily installed and removed. The upholstery, redone by the previous owners, is in very good condition with no stains, tears or odors present whatsoever. We do offer upholstery services, if this options interests you please message us prior to checkout to discuss options and pricing. This ultra-rare expansion dining table and matching chair set is highly functional, structurally solid and ready for a literal lifetime more of use. Please view all photos and natural light video provided for details on this set's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
