About the Item
Refined dining set consisting of a shaped table and four matching chairs, executed in the Boulle style and dating from the second half of the 19th century. Made of ebonized wood, the group is distinguished by the very high quality of the brass inlay on a tortoiseshell (or tortoiseshell-like) background, executed with extreme precision in elaborate phytomorphic scrollwork and arabesque motifs, in the tradition of André-Charles Boulle's cabinetmaking.
The table top has a mixtilinear profile, finely finished along the entire edge with a rich chiseled gilt bronze frame. The sides and legs are embellished with inlaid brass reserves and spectacular gilded bronze applications: caryatids, scrolls, and masks, carved with extraordinary relief and decorative richness.
The four matching chairs echo the same ornamental theme: the black wooden frame is embellished with brass threading, decorative metal inserts, and gold trim. The shaped backs are embellished at the top with a gilded bronze crown depicting a ribbon with floral motifs. The seats are upholstered in purple-red velvet, which contrasts elegantly with the ebonized frame.
