About the Item

This set of table and chairs was designed by Willy Rizzo for Mario Sabot, in Italy during the 1970's. The chairs are in lacquered wood, steel and reupholstered with a synthetic leather. The table has a central foot in steel and a black glass top. In original and good vintage condition. Willy Rizzo started his career in Paris as a photographer of the stars and starlets for Ciné Mondial Movie, Point de Vue and Image du Monde. After a few collaborations in fashion magazines, in 1959 he became Marie Claire's art director and collaborated with the leading fashion magazines including Vogue. In 1968, he married Elsa Martinelli, moved to Rome and began his work as a designer to meet his own needs, because, as he said, "antique or Scandinavian furniture are not comfortable or simple enough." He created his own ateliers, based on the demand. In the late 1970's with the fall of the Cinecittà and the rise of terrorism, he sold his business and went back to Paris, were he continued to work as a designer and photographer.
