About the Item
An rare surviving 18th century American farm table, crafted with a pine top over a maple base, exemplifying the craftsmanship of the late colonial to early Federal period. The rectangular top is formed of two wide pine plants with warm, well-worn patina. The table stands on columnar tapered legs, joined by square stretchers at the ends and a central chamfered. turned maple legs and are joined by sturdy maple stretchers. Retains remnants of an old red-washed surface to elements of the base. A special piece and an example of the subtle understated elegance of 18th century everyday living!
Condition: The top with good color and a nicely work surface, shrinkage between the two boards, and wear along the edges. The bases stretchers with heavy wear and losses overall.
