About the Item

A metal and glass table, model TL59, produced by Poggi, designed by Afra Tobia Scarpa, 1970s This table features a metal cast base supporting a glass top. Designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, it is a piece that plays with asymmetry. The base, with its fluid and organic form, is positioned off-center relative to the circumference of the glass top. The result is akin to a sculpture: the aesthetic choices allow the table to rest calmly, almost effortlessly, on the floor, as if unburdened by the substantial weight of the thick glass top. Many of Scarpa’s designs convey a constant dialogue between materials, a dialogue that is neither self-referential nor a mere stylistic exercise. Scarpa, alongside his wife Afra Bianchin, maintained throughout their professional and personal partnership a design philosophy that is both comprehensible and accessible, yet never lacking in depth or significance. Their works possess the simplicity and grace of poetic verses, revealing new and surprising meanings in familiar materials and forms. This table, along with other furniture, objects, and lighting designs by Scarpa, seamlessly integrates into any interior, establishing an effortless aesthetic harmony. It is in excellent overall condition, with a glass top free of visible chips or scratches. Literature: G. Gramigna, Repertorio del Design Italiano 1950-2000 per l'arredamento domestico, Allemandi, 2003, p. 234. Dimensions: Diameter 130 cm - Height 72 cm
