Antique French Hunt Wake DINING Table Bleached Oak LARGE Gate Leg Console c1880.
Direct from France, and an extremely sought-after table design, this very large, drop leaf, gate leg “wake” or “hunt” table is a beautiful example of versatility and craftsmanship.
VERY long and VERY slender with its leaves down, the table has an elegant, understated profile that makes it easy to place in a hallway, dining room, or behind a sofa.
With the drop leaves extended, it opens into a large sized oval table, (approx. 7.5 ft x 5 ft), perfect for large gatherings and entertaining.
Another design feature, the dual supporting gates for the leaves open towards the center, which allows for much more leg/chair room than a traditional drop leaf table.
Extremely versatile, and always a conversation starter, as most don’t know why they were known as a “wake” table or “hunt” table!!!
The table is solid oak, and the original finish has been beautifully bleached to highlight the natural oak wood grain and to perfectly compliment any European décor. A timeless piece that embodies both the practicality and charm of French country design.
Quality throughout, very heavy and sturdy for use; well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1880.
Measurements: 30” ht. x 89.25” (ALMOST 7.5 ft. length) x 22” (SUPER SLENDER WITH LEAVES DOWN. LARGE FULL SIZE with both leaves up, 89.25” x 58” (that’s 7.5 ft. x 5 ft.!).
Width with one leaf up, 39”. Leg clearance below top, 29”.
