About the Item

This striking Mid-Century dining table or desk, designed by Bernhard Rohne for Mastercraft, exemplifies the bold sophistication of 1970s design. Crafted with an acid-etched brass surface, the table features an intricate, textured pattern that adds depth and visual intrigue, complemented by a polished brass frame that exudes warmth and luxury. The expansive top, supported by sleek, sturdy legs, offers versatile use as either a dining surface or a statement desk, blending functionality with artistic flair. The piece’s modernist aesthetic and meticulous craftsmanship make it an ideal centerpiece for a dining room, office, or collector’s curated space, continuing to captivate with its timeless elegance. Bernhard Rohne (1931–2010) was an American designer and artist renowned for his contributions to Mid-Century Modern and Postmodern furniture design. Born in Germany, Rohne immigrated to the United States, where he collaborated with prestigious manufacturers like Mastercraft. Known for his innovative use of materials such as brass and glass, Rohne specialized in acid-etching techniques that created distinctive, textured surfaces. His work, often characterized by bold forms and luxurious finishes, gained acclaim in the 1960s and 1970s, earning him a lasting reputation among collectors and design enthusiasts. Mastercraft, an American furniture company established in the mid-20th century, became a leading name in high-end Mid-Century Modern design. Based in the United States, the company collaborated with notable designers like Bernhard Rohne to produce luxurious pieces featuring exotic materials such as brass, walnut, and glass. Known for their attention to detail and innovative finishes, including acid-etched surfaces, Mastercraft’s furniture appealed to affluent clients and interior designers. The brand’s legacy endures, with its pieces remaining highly sought after for their craftsmanship and timeless style. ---Dimensions--- Width: 65.75 in / 167.01 cm Depth: 43.75 in / 111.13 cm Height: 29.25 in / 74.3 cm This stunning dining table is in 100% original, vintage condition and has aged to perfection! The acid-etched table base does show some minor signs of vintage wear such as nicks, scratches and minor chips (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided). With that said the base, in aggregate, is in excellent original shape. The beveled edge, thick-cut glass top shows only minor surface scratches (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided) but showing no chips, cracks or other wear whatsoever. This artfully designed and crafted table is functional, structurally solid and ready for a lifetime more of use.
