About the Item

Brutalist legs and luminous marquetry — a dialogue between grain, geometry and patina. This French Art Deco dining table distills the period’s boldness into a restrained, architectural form. Crafted in solid oak, the surface has been sanded back to reveal a rich, nuanced grain, its warm tone enhanced by decades of natural patina. The result is a top that feels both quietly luxurious and deeply tactile. At its centre, the table showcases an intricate checked marquetry field, a chessboard of light and dark oak that introduces rhythm and graphic precision. The pattern catches the light as you move around it, animating the surface without disturbing the calm of its overall silhouette. Beneath, the composition shifts from refinement to strength. The tall, block-like legs read almost Brutalist in profile, grounding the piece with a sculptural weight that recalls the work of Charles Dudouyt — where rustic solidity meets modernist rigor. The interplay between the refined top and monumental base gives the table its distinctive presence. The piece remains in excellent original condition, with only minor wear consistent with age and careful use; edges and surfaces show the gentle softening that collectors prize, without compromising structural integrity. For added versatility, the table incorporates two extension leaves of 50 cm each, allowing it to expand significantly for larger gatherings while retaining its balanced proportions when closed.
