About the Item

An exceptional mid Victorian oak refectory table in the gothic taste in the manner of E W Pugin. The naturally bleached table top is made of a thick single oak plank with a splendid gentle curve to one side with a chamfered edge and rounded corners. The base of pegged construction has a pair of carved trestle ends of triangular form complemented by out swept supports to each. The carved supports of good form finish on sledge feet united by a single well weathered stretcher. This spectacular table can seat eight to ten guests comfortably, presented in un-restored original condition. English, circa 1860.
