About the Item

Designed in the 1940s by Charles Dudouyt, this versatile table exemplifies the French modernist’s thoughtful craftsmanship and sculptural vocabulary, rendered in oak. The solid frame features a thick top with subtle inlay work, its proportions balanced and intentional. The base is where Dudouyt’s hand is most felt—each leg carved with rhythmic ribbing, decorative panels raised in relief, and insets of warm copper punctuated by silver-toned medallions. These details add texture and presence without overwhelming the form, a signature of Dudouyt’s restrained yet expressive style. Originally built to accommodate extension leaves (now removed), the table has been fixed at a versatile scale—equally suited as a dining table, desk, or entry anchor. A grounded, beautifully made piece that reads as both functional and artful. Condition: Very good vintage condition. The oak has been professionally conditioned by our restoration team, enhancing the depth and character of the grain while preserving the table’s original patina. Minor surface wear is visible, particularly along the edges and corners, along with a few small indentations consistent with age and use.
