About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this super rare and very important original circa 1800 Chinese Chinoiserie refectory dining table. This table was owned by the wife of the Admiral who ran the naval base in Davenport in the south of England, it was sold at an estate sale maybe 5-6 years ago, since then it has resided in my care whilst I decide what to do with it It is a truly sublime and very important piece, I have never seen another of its type and in searching the internet can't find any other examples. The table is circa 1800 and in what looks to be oak or elm, it's hard to see as it's almost entirely covered. The table has then been plastered and upholstered with what looks like rice paper Chinoiserie artwork, it may be a different type of paper but it's thin hence the plaster base layer Condition wise there is age and use related patina marks all over, as you can see in the pictures, the paper has degraded in places and its showing its age well, one side stretcher is missing and has been replaced, this can be professionally restored and colour match patined at the new owners cost and request, I have left it as it is as I like old repairs Dimensions Height:- 76.5cm Width:- 249cm Depth:- 121cm Inside measurements Side width inside the legs 105cm, front width inside the legs 100cm Inside height from under the rail to the floor 71.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
