About the Item

Carlo Scarpa's ‘Samo’ dining table was designed for Simon Gavina in 1971. Part of the 'Ultrarazionale' collection, this rare piece features two grooved Carrara marble pillars supporting a floating oval marble top. The pillared base mirrors the solidity and presence of architectural columns, creating a seamless bridge between furniture and structural design. The weight of the solid Carrara balances effortlessly on its pedestals, showcasing Scarpa's mastery of gravity and material. Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) was a highly influential 20th-century architect, known for drawing inspiration from Venetian culture, materials, landscapes, and Japanese design. His deep appreciation for history, regional traditions, and craftsmanship allowed him to create innovative designs in both glass and furniture, blending artistic techniques with a modern architectural vision. Condition: Great vintage condition, with minor surface scuffs and one very small prior repair.
