About the Item
Large walnut table, model called "a rocchetto," Tuscany, 17th century.
The rocchetto table, which originated in the 17th century in Tuscany and Emilia as a sturdy dining table, is characterized by its spool-shaped turned legs (inspired by yarn spools) joined by lower crossbars, a design that was inspired by Renaissance taste and persisted for centuries (17th-19th centuries), used in refectories and large families. Our model is made of walnut wood and has two large drawers in the under-shelf band, each with simple turned wooden knob pulls. The wood finish is dark and patinated, bringing out the depth of the walnut's color and its natural grain. The overall appearance is that of a sturdy, functional piece of furniture with great character and an aesthetic that fits well in rustic or traditional settings. The cabinet is in very good state of preservation, with minor old maintenance restorations.
