About the Item

A powerful and sculptural table base by Greek-American master Nicos Zographos, this monumental “Alpha” model exemplifies the artist’s distinctive fusion of classical influence and modernist form. Cast in richly patinated high grade stainless steel, the base presents a commanding architectural presence defined by bold, geometric massing and finely articulated surfaces. The proportions are intentionally heroic, giving the piece a sense of permanence and gravitas more often associated with monumental sculpture than functional furniture. The 4 toes have adjustable feet to install the piece vibration free on any surface. Zographos is celebrated for elevating the table base to an autonomous work of art, and the Alpha series stands among his most iconic designs. The sculptural profile anchors a substantial glass or stone top with visual authority while remaining refined and balanced from every angle. Subtle variations in the patina and casting speak to the hand-crafted nature of the work and contribute to its depth and character. Ideal for a grand dining table or statement desk, this Alpha base functions equally as a centerpiece and as a testament to Zographos’ enduring legacy in 20th-century design. A rare and important example for collectors seeking a museum-quality object with both utility and sculptural presence. The base is photographed with a square white lacquered MDF top with grey leather inlay. This top is available, but the photo is meant to illustrate what the table will look like with a marble top of your own preference in size of 180 x 180 cm or with a diameter of 200 cm. Polished and brushed metal console "Gerbe" by Maria Pergay, France c.1970
By Maria Pergay
Located in Renens, CH
French design stainless steel console "Gerbe" by Maria Pergay, France c. 1970 Edited by Design Steel around 1970, the company that Maria Pergay founded with Marina Varenne in Paris in 1970 and which edited the designers pieces until 1977 when Maria Pergay decided to take over the business alone. The heavy structure of the console is in mirror polished and brushed stainless steel. The use of these two steel textures is typical for Pergay throughout her creations. The half moon shaped top in thick dark grey tinted glass matches perfectly with the impressive stainless steel structure. The NYC based gallery Demisch Danant has recently curated an exhibition called Precious Strength which shed a new light on Maria Pergay's work confirming her place in the history of french 20th century design. Maria Pergay (1930-2023) is known for her innovative use of stainless steel—a passion that began in the 1960s and has continued into her eighties. Born in Romania of Russian-Jewish descent, Pergay escaped to Paris with her mother at age six at the onset of WWII. After the war, Pergay studied costume, set design, and sculpture, and opened a shop in Paris’s Place des Vosges to sell her decorative silver objects. Upon a commission to work with steel, Pergay began to create her now iconic stainless steel furniture, with her first collection including the renowned Flying Carpet daybed (1968) and the Ring chair...
