About the Item

Nerone Ceccarelli for Gruppo NP2 — Sculptural Dining Table or Desk, Italy, 1982 A powerful and architectural table designed by Nerone Ceccarelli for the avant-garde collective Gruppo NP2, Italy, 1982. This sculptural piece, known as Cariatide 4, reflects Ceccarelli’s exploration of rhythm, geometry, and negative space — where functional furniture meets contemporary sculpture. Each base is hand-carved from solid wood, featuring geometric cut-outs and voids that create a striking Brutalist yet refined silhouette. The architectural composition expresses the Italian Radical Design language of the early 1980s: bold, expressive, and deeply material. The wood material is fire-treated and wax-patinated, highlighting the natural grain and depth of the carving. The two sculptural bases can be arranged in multiple configurations: – As side tables, displayed individually as autonomous sculptural objects. – As a round dining table, by combining them with a circular glass top. – As a long rectangular dining or pedestal desk, by aligning them beneath a rectangular glass top. Please note: the glass top shown is for illustration purposes only. We can provide a new 15 mm glass top made to original specifications upon request. This model perfectly captures the essence of Italian avant-garde craftsmanship from the 1980s — where design and sculpture converge into one expressive statement piece. Dimensions (rectangular configuration): Height: 72 cm (28.3 in) Width: 200 cm (78.7 in) Depth: 90 cm (35.4 in) Dimensions (round configuration, example): Height: 72 cm (28.3 in) Diameter: 120 cm (47.2 in) Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The wooden bases show a rich natural patina consistent with age and craftsmanship. A new 15 mm glass top can be supplied if desired.
